Basketball teams are well into practice for the 2014-2015 season, and although no teams have played a game, the coaches and media have already voted on which teams are tops in the state.

Three out of the four champions from the 2013-2014 season, take the top spots heading into the 2014-2015 season.

Cody, Wyoming Indian and Burlington will defend their titles with the #1 ranking on their backs.

In 4A, state runner-up Kelly Walsh is the pre-season favorite. It's the first time in four years that Gillette is NOT the early fave. The Camels rank 2nd in the first poll. Cheyenne East won the 3rd place trophy and take the #3 ranking. Consolation champ Natrona is ranked #4, and Evanston rounds out the rankings at #5, by 1 vote ahead of Central, who was 1 vote ahead of Rock Springs. Opening weekend has the Trojans, and Red Devils playing in Riverton, just not vs. each other. Meanwhile, the Camels, Thunderbirds, Mustangs, Indians and Tigers are scheduled to gather in Gillette.

3A could arguably be the most competitive, especially with the new format of 4 4-team divisions. Defending champ Cody is king of the mountain to start out, with a huge majority of the votes. After that it's crowded. Powell is ranked #2, with Wheatland and Rawlins not far behind, tied at #3. All 4 are scheduled to play in Buffalo on opening weekend, with east teams vs. west teams. Star Valley claims the #5 spot. 12 teams got votes, which is the most in any class.

In 2A, its the fourth time in 5 years and the third year a row for the Wyoming Indian Chiefs are at #1 to start a season. Rocky Mountain and Greybull finished 2nd and 3rd last season, and take the #2 and #3 spots respectively. #4 Pine Bluffs is looking to build off of last season's momentum, after falling to the Grizzlies in double OT in the semi-finals. Big Horn is ranked #5 and is scheduled, along with Greybull to play in Glenrock on opening weekend.

In 1A, this is the third consecutive year for Burlington at the top, and they have a challenge to start the season, at home vs. #2 2A Rocky Mountain. #2 Guernsey-Sunrise hopes to challenge the Huskies, like they did in last season's semi-finals. Little Snake River is in the middle of the rankings at #3. Kaycee is ranked #4, and there is a tie at #5 with Encampment and Dubois.
