The first boys basketball poll of the 2011 calendar year is out, and 2 #1 vs. #2 games are on the schedule for this week!

It will be time to settle the score in Class 4A this Friday.   Gillette is the new #1 after beating now #2 Natrona, 2 weeks ago in the Castle of Chaos, to avenge last year's championship loss. Now it's rematch time in Casper at the Orange Dungeon. The Mustangs haven't played since that loss, and while the extra rest can help with doing your homework on the court, the question is...is it too much rest? We'll find out Friday. NC has a difficult weekend ahead of them, because after the Gillette game, they hit the road to #4 Sheridan on Saturday. Rock Springs holds at #3. The Tigers will host Laramie and 3A Worland this weekend. Sheridan checks in at #4 after a 3-0 performance last week. The Broncs have business to take care of at Billings, MT Skyview on Friday, before they can deal with Saturday's big game, home vs. NC. Evanston slips to #5 and will tune-up for conference play by hosting a pair of 3A teams, in the form of Worland and Cody.

The Buffalo Bison are the unanimous king of the 3A hill this week. However they have to be on their guard this Friday, as they visit #4 Rawlins, who is sure to be out for redemption, after losing their first game last week. Buffalo is home vs. Cheyenne South on Saturday. Despite losing to Buffalo at home last week, Wheatland moves up to #2. The Bulldogs are home vs. Glenrock on Thursday, then at Thermopolis on Saturday. #3 Torrington is at Thermopolis the day before Wheatland visits Hot Springs County. The Trailblazers have the rest of the weekend off, to prepare for a Tuesday game at Gering, NE. As mentioned, Rawlins is at #4, and are preparing for #1 Buffalo to visit on Friday. The Outlaws visit Glenrock on Saturday. Jackson cracks the poll at #5. The Broncs have a busy week in southwest Wyoming, visiting Lyman and Mountain View, and then play at #3 2A Kemmerer on Tuesday.

No change in the top 4 of the 2A poll. Lovell is still #1, but only by 2 points over #2 Big Horn. Kemmerer and Wyoming Indian remain at #3 and #4, while Tongue River and Pine Bluffs are tied for #5. This weekend's game have Lovell visiting Shoshoni and Greybull, while Big Horn has rivalry business at home vs. #5 (tie) Tongue River on Friday. The Rams then visit another #5 (1A Kaycee) on Saturday. Kemmerer is home vs. Saratoga, then visits 3A Pinedale on Saturday, before playing again Tuesday home vs. #5 3A Jackson. The Chiefs host rival Wind River on Friday, then visit Rocky Mountain on Saturday. As mentioned TR is at BH on Friday, and then the Eagles cross the mountains to play Riverside the next day. Pine Bluffs will host Pawnee, CO, and visit Southeast.

The other #1 vs. #2 showdown this weekend is on the 1A side, as the undefeated Little Snake River Rattlers host the high-scoring offense that is the St. Stephens Eagles, on Friday. The next day has LSR home vs. Farson-Eden, while SS takes the rest of the weekend off. Actually the entire 1A poll is unchanged from last time. #3 H.E.M. will host Chugwater and Encampment on Thursday and Friday. #4 Ten Sleep is at Meeteetse on Saturday, while #5 Kaycee is at Midwest Thursday, and then host #2 2A Big Horn on Saturday.
