Highlights of the Friday, October 18th, 2A Football Game, between #4 Wheatland at #2 Burns.

Scroll down to watch highlights of the game.

Mikky Heward scored 3 TD's, while the Bronc defense blocked 2 punts, which eventually lead to scores, as the home team and top overall defense in Class 2A, ran over Wheatland and their top 2A rush defense, to clinch the 2A East and stay undefeated.

Shadow was all bundled up for football weather...actually there's another one named Smokin' Joe, but he got the night off.

#4 Wheatland at #2 Burns...first quarter...Burns wearing the black and the defense showed up early...Cecil Brockman rushes in to get the block...Nolan Schindler would eventually recover the loose ball...and the boys in black would set the tone of this game early and set up shop inside enemy territory.

On the next play...the Broncs wasted no time in finishing the job...Taylor Kirkbride rolls out...and he'll let 'er fly...great adjustment by Mikky Heward to reel the ball in...and he's in for a 39-yard score...the home team is on the board first, leading 7-to-nothing.

Next possession...one Bulldog would get loose from his chain...Nathan Willis comes in on the linebacker blitz...gets his hands on Kirkbride...and Josh Calvert would help bring him down...first place in the 2A East was on the line in this game, and so far it was living up to its billing.

If the home team had one problem...it was special teams offense...a few no good PAT's and this play was a disaster...Klayton Clark with bad punt...thanks to an equally bad snap...Willis gets a pretty good return back to the 27 yard line...and the visitors were ready to put on some bite with their bark.

A few plays later...the sophomore that set this drive up, would get the call...Willis goes 5 yards without much trouble...that nets 6 points plus 1 more...this game was tied at 7 after the first 12 minutes.

2nd quarter...Burns was on the move again...we almost bought the fake...Kirkbride will flair a pass to Matt Martin, and the junior finds his way into the end zone for a score...PAT no good, so the scoreboard reads 13-to-7.

Later...this play was awesome...but it took awhile to develop...Critter Ruwart is in the back scrambling...we lost him for a moment behind all the other players...then we found him...he's going to complete a pass to Braden Douglas...but watch what happens...he'll get relieved of his duties by Heward...who has nothing but wide open field ahead of him...74 yards and gone on a clean strip...no good on the conversion afterwards, but the boys in black had the momentum...leading 19-to-7, going into the locker room.

3rd quarter...more defense on special teams for the Broncs...Travis Romsa blocks a punt...Wheatland was forced to bury it back at the 17 yard line...and the home team was ready to saddle up for another ride.

It took about 5 plays, but they would cash in...Wyatt Berg gets in from 1 yard out...another 6 points...and the Broncs were ahead 25-to-7, going into the final 12 minutes.

Well...I suppose that's one way to show school spirit...I don't recommend anyone try that on a regular basis.

4th quarter...more problems for the visitors...Romsa wants to teach Ruwart a new trick...it's called lie down. A 17-yard sack...coming into this game...Burns had the #1 defense in the state in Class 2A...and so far so good.

However...Ruwart found ways to keep the drive alive...he threw a number of long passes...and this was one of the few that got caught...Taran Welchel with a 31 yard gain down to the 4 yard line on a 4th down play...and the Bulldogs were not quite ready to surrender this game just yet.

Next play...they had to score quickly, because time was becoming a factor...Ruwart to Austin Huffer who fetches 6 points on a 4 yard reception...he and his team was trying to get back into this game...trailing 25-13.

...but on the first play after the kickoff...look to the far side...Heward is eventually going to break through...slip a few tackles...and that Bronc is off to the races again...64 yards and his third TD...Wheatland actually had the 2nd best defense in the state class 2A, coming into this game...and the top rush defense in Class 2A...but Burns ran over both of those statistics, to clinch the 2A East...31-to-13 was the final...the boys in black are now 7-and-oh on the season.
