Highlights of the 1A Girls State Championship Basketball game, between Cokeville vs. Lingle-Ft. Laramie.

Scroll down to watch highlights of the game.

The Lady Panthers got some production from their bench, whereas the Lady Doggers did not, and that provided the difference.

Faster than a falling dust particle…and able to clean an entire basketball court in roughly 30 seconds…it’s Super Scotty! Action figures are coming soon…complete with cape.

Cokeville vs. Lingle-Ft. Laramie in the 1A state championship game…first quarter…Lingle-Ft. Laramie wearing the white…Kylah Myers scores quickly off of the inbounds as her team would build an early 5-nothing lead.

It took Cokeville about 3 minutes to get things going, which is not what they wanted to have happen. Tessa Teichert drives…hoop and the hack…that got rid of the zero, but they’re still down 5-to-2.

The Lady Doggers wanted to get out to a good start and they did…here’s Melissa Bowlin taking the assist and adding 2 points to the cause…as they would eventually go up 11-to-4.

They had the height advantage in this game, and they’d use it. Kylah Meyer is a 6 foot 1 inch junior and scoring baskets up close is her specialty…the lead is at 9…it’s 15-to-6.

The Lady Panthers had to get their act in gear soon, or else they were going to be in trouble…Carol Tonga stops the bleeding, and now her team is down 15-to-8.

Last year’s state runner-ups would slowly get back into this game. They’d use fast passing to get the ball to Marissa Pope and she would take care of the rest…and Cokeville would only find themselves down, 15-to-12, after the first 8 minutes.

2nd quarter…things would stay close for awhile…Kaylee Greenwald would find Kassandra Aguallo who is on the run…and the senior will get the lay in on the near-side to help the lady Doggers maintain a 19-to-15 advantage.

Cokeville would use some defense to help get rid of the deficit. Kaylie Moyes gets the swipe, and then she’ll feed the ball ahead to Teichert…21 points for a 5 foot 3 inch senior…that’s really good…her team is down 2…it’s 19-17.

The Lady Panthers had each other’s backs at times…that shot was wayyy off, but Bethany Briggs collects the miss and she’ll put the toy away…and this ball game is tied up at 19 points a-piece.

Lingle-Ft. Laramie was playing to their strengths…get the ball up close to Meyer…she had a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds…to put her team back on top…22-to-19.

Now this next highlight is important in one aspect…the opposition would go to the bench for their next 2 points…this is Elizabeth Dayton on the putback try…there is a point to all this and I’ll explain later…Cokeville trails 23-22 at this juncture.

We had a few long range baskets in this game as well…Aguallo takes aim and lets ‘er fly and she’ll bulldog 3 of her 15 points for her squad…who are now up 27-23.

The Lady Panthers kept hanging around and would not go away…Pope from about 12 feet and she’ll get a friendly bounce and the drop…that would make it a 2 point contest…with her team down 29-27, going into the locker room.

Third quarter…both teams would stay within striking distance of each other…Teichert is at the top of the key and opening the door for 3…now Cokeville has the advantage, as they’re up 34-33.

The Lady Doggers would come right back…just get it to Meyer and she knows what to do…and she’ll make it look easy. The lead has changed hands again, it’s 35-34.

But the defense had a hard time remembering to guard Teichert when she’s outside the arc…and they would pay 3 times over…the Lady Panthers now go ahead, 39-37.

Actually Lingle-Ft. Laramie had 2-6 footers on their team…the other was Bowlin…12 points for the senior…and her team trails, 41-39.

Of course they didn’t always score up close…they could hit from a distance as well, and Bowlin will prove my point. The east regional champs were down by 4…45-41 going into the final 8 minutes.

4th quarter…something had to happen sooner or later…and it was coming…Aguallo had to step on the line for that one…so it’ll go down as a long 2…lady Doggers still trail 46-43…but then Cokeville would respond quickly and here’s where they made their move…Briggs will answer and get that 2 right back for her team…to make this a 48-43 contest.

Their experience was starting to pay off…Pope catches a quick pass inside and will deposit another 2 for her team…now they have a 7-point cushion…the scoreboard reads, 50-to-43.

…and then sometimes, luck was on their side…that pass should’ve been intercepted…but Briggs will get it…and the basket…the Lady Panthers are in decent shape up 9…it’s 52-43.

But Lingle-Ft. Laramie was not quite done…they used some strategy. Meyer bounces the assist to Greenwald and she would deliver a much needed 2 points…but they’re still down 52-45.

They had to hurry up and at times they did…Aguallo gets ahead of everyone and will finish the fast break on the far side…the Lady Doggers were getting closer…trailing 52-to-47.

Turnovers were helping the cause at times…they would cash in on this one and Bowlin will score to make this a 56-53 contest.

But then the game would shift into free throw mode, and although Cokeville did not make them all…they made enough. What led to Lingle-Ft. Laramie’s undoing…well, remember that bench comment I made earlier? The Lady Doggers got zip from theirs. The starters did all the work, and it was not enough, when the final horn went off.
