Defending 4A Girls Champion Cheyenne East Edges Evanston in Round One
The Cheyenne East girls basketball team, with one returning starter from last year's state championship team needed overtime to knock off Evanston 53-50 in overtime in the quarterfinal round of the State 4A Girls Basketball tournament in Casper on Thursday. East nearly hit a 45 foot shot at the end of regulation and prevailed in the extra session to earn a spot in the semi-finals. Makenzee Fagenbush had 16 points for the Thunderbirds while Jazzy Espinoza chippeed in 12. Evanston was led by Emmery Wagstaff with 18 while Hailey Barker had 13. The Red Devils drop to 17-7 on the year and will be in consolation round tomorrow. East will play Thunder Basin in the semi-finals at 4:30 on Friday at the Events Center.
