The polls are a measuring stick during the regular season, but the tournament is how the real #1 is determined.

Now that teams are entering post-season mode, here's what the coaches and media believe are the best ranked teams, heading into the regional and state tournaments.

4A Boys:

Gillette reclaims the #1 ranking in unanimous fashion. The Camels will make their first trip to the state tournament, since 2009. Laramie holds at #2, while Sheridan drops to #3. The Broncs and #5 Central, have to win a do-or-die game in the first round of the regional tournament, before they can start thinking about a trip to Rock Springs. Meanwhile, west champ Riverton will be the only ranked team playing in Evanston, as they will take the #4 ranking with them.

3A Boys:

The top 5 has been unchanged for more than 1 month, and the final poll is no different. Jackson is the unanimous #1, followed by Buffalo, Lander, Worland and Star Valley. Only the Braves have to play in a state qualifier game. The rest are already guaranteed a state tournament bid.

4A Girls:

Laramie got their revenge and reclaim the #1 ranking from East last week, and claimed the #1 seed going into the east regional tournament. East and Central sit at #2 and #3, and barring a Lady Indian collapse vs. South, the 2 teams will hook up for a 3rd time in the regional semi-finals, and unlike the last 2 times (2 tie games), there WILL be a winner the third time around. Meanwhile, #4 Natrona and #5 Green River will be the top 2 seeds in the west regional tournament.

3A Girls:

Cody is the one with the most questions heading into the post-season. Last week's #1 team, dropped both road games vs. Star Valley and Jackson, then fell at Worland in the regular season finale. There are 2 scenarios with the #4 Fillies. The first is that they really are circling the drain (much like the Green River boys did)...or they were playing it safe and cautious, because the losses did not have any impact on their spot in the state tournament bracket. As for the poll, Jackson is back on top, and Lander is a solid #2. Buffalo climbs up to #3, and Star Valley holds at #5.
