Games are getting bigger and more important, as post-season slots are beginning to fill up, and seeding is still up for grabs.

The latest 4A ranks are unchanged from last week, but teams are still jockeying for position. Gillette is the unanimous #1, followed by Sheridan, East, Kelly Walsh and Natrona. The only match-up of ranked team vs. ranked team is NC at Sheridan, but there are other big games as well. KW has the inside track for the #4 seed, however they've lost 4 straight vs. Central. South is still looking for their first win, and expect the Bison to give it all they have vs. Rock Springs...a team that still has a shot to get into the post-season, but they're not there yet. East is finally home after a 6-game road swing, and Evanston would love to be rude guests.

The top spots in 3A can be locked up this weekend...but the top 3 in the polls are all unanimous. Powell, Douglas and Star Valley. Cody slips to #4, while Riverton holds at #5. Powell can clinch the west with a win home vs. arch rival Cody, while Douglas can do the same in the east, with a win at Riverton. As for the other teams...Lander and Torrington can clinch a playoff spot with a win this Friday at Rawlins and at Buffalo respectively. Assuming Star Valley wins vs. Green River...then the Jackson-Worland winner is in. Star Valley and Cody are in with wins.

It's close in both the 2A polls and in the standings. Lovell is still #1, but by 1 vote over #2 Burns. However, it doesn't matter anymore for the Bulldogs, because they have already wrapped up the top seed in the west. The big game this weekend is #4 Wheatland at #2 Burns, while #3 Big Horn will sit back and watch. The Broncs can clinch the east with a W, while a Bulldog win, creates a 3-way with the Rams with 1 game to go. (BH's win at previously unbeaten Wheatland last week is paying dividends). Newcastle is in with a win home vs. Tongue River. Meanwhile in the west...aside from Lovell and Kemmerer who play each other this week...6 teams are separated by 1 game, and are fighting for 3 playoff spots. There are too many scenarios to deal with, because every team has 2 games left...but we can say this much. The winner between #5 Mountain View at Thermopolis, has a real good chance of making it into the post-season, while the Big Piney-Greybull loser is in big trouble.

In 1A, all eyes are on the east...or rather, the Southeast part of the state. It's on between #2 Lusk and #3 Southeast this Friday in Yoder. The top seed in the east (and avoiding #1 Cokeville in the semi-finals) is on the line! The Tigers have won their last 5 via shutout, but that's the last thing on their minds, in this re-match of last year's state title game. Meanwhile, Lingle-Ft. Laramie can clinch a spot with a road win against an Upton-Sundance team, that has had their offense go AWOL in the last 2 games. In the west, the winner between #5 Rocky Mountain at Shoshoni is in.

Some of the 6-man games could be just a good as the 11-man games. It will be a backyard brawl in Oiler country, between #3 Midwest and #4 Kaycee. Midwest slipped a spot in the rankings, but can clinch the east with a win. Kaycee needs to win this, and next week home vs. Guernsey to lay claim to the #1 east seed. It's also a big one Saturday, when Saratoga visits #5 Guernsey. The winner is not guaranteed anything, because Hulett is still in the picture as well. The west is not as complex. #1 Meeteetse will wrap up the top spot, provided they win at St. Stephens. Saturday's game between #2 Dubois at Little Snake River will be for the #2 and #3 seeds in the west. Not to be left out, the Wyoming Indian at Farson-Eden winner, will secure the final playoff spot in the west.
