With many teams starting conference play this weekend, some teams will have to prove that they are worthy of their ranking right off the bat.

As in past years, the girls poll is dominated by east teams. The only 4A team that did not start their season last week was Laramie, and they will be thrown into the fire to start off. The Lady Plainsmen are tied for #3 in the first coaches/media poll, and will first host defending state champ and #1 ranked Gillette on Friday, and then follow that up with #2 Sheridan visiting on Saturday. Cheyenne South will face the same 2 opponents in reverse order. Cheyenne East is tied with Laramie for the #3 ranking, and the Lady Thunderbirds visit #5 Central on Friday.

Cody is on top the 3A poll. The Fillies are followed by 4-time defending champ Jackson, Lander and then Star Valley and Pinedale are tied for #4, although the Lady Braves delivered an 8-1 thrashing of the Lady Wranglers, right before the votes were counted up. Cody hosts Pinedale on Friday, while #2 Jackson visits #3 Lander on the same day, in a rematch of last year's state championship game.
