Girls Hoops Ranks, 2nd Edition
Girls basketball rankings for the second week see one new #1 team and 2 #1 vs. #2 match-ups highlight this weekend's schedule. The Lady Rattlers take over the number one spot from Cokeville. The Lady Panthers lost to 2A Shoshoni in their opening weekend that might have shaken voters confidence. They are now #2 with Burlington three, Guernsey’s upset of Kaycee last week puts the LadyVikings in the poll at four with Kaycee fifth.
Nothing too big this week as far as 1A ranked teams go. LSR will host the Litle 6 Invitational in Rawlins, while #2 Cokeville will 2A competition this weekend...home vs. Big Piney and at Kemmerer. #3 Burlington will host county rival Riverside, #4 Guernsey will travel to #3 2A Pine Bluffs on Friday, then host Sioux County, NE, while #5 Kaycee will play in the Coal Miners Classic in Glenrock vs. Lusk, Glenrock and #5 2A Big Horn.
4A has four teams with #1 votes. Gillette remains #1 with 6 of the 12, Natrona got a couple and are 2nd. Sheridan gets three but falls to third and Laramie got one and the lady Plainsmen are 4th. Friday night has #2 NC at #1 Gillette. The 2 teams will also play Uintah, Utah and Rock Springs this weekend. #3 Sheridan and #4 Laramie are in action on Saturday only home vs. Riverton and at Kelly Walsh respectively, while #5 East is playing in Colorado.
3A has the same top five as a week ago with a minor change. Star Valley is 5th by themselves this week as Buffalo falls to sixth. A huge early season clash in the 3A East has #1 Wheatland visiting #2 Douglas on Saturday. Before that though, Douglas has to deal with Rawlins and Wheatland entertains Scottsbluff, NE. #5 Star Valley visits #3 Cody on Friday. On Saturday the Lady Braves will play at Powell, while the Fillies host Jackson. Meanwhile #4 Torrington will visit 4A Riverton on Friday night.
In 2A, Lovell is a unanimous #1 as the Lady Bulldogs took all 16 top ballots. They are followed by Tongue River, Pine Bluffs, Wyoming Indian and Big Horn. See the complete voting breakdown online. #4 WIHS starts their season on Thursday with a trip to #1 Lovell...then they head north to Billings, MT. #2 Tongue River is home vs. Rocky Mountain and at Riverside this weekend. #3 PB will host #4 1A Guernsey, along with Banner County, NE, while #5 Big Horn plays at the Coal Miners Classic in Glenrock, vs. Southeast, #5 1A Kaycee, and the hosting Lady Herders.
