The Lady Plainsmen took advantage of a second home game vs. the Lady Thunderbirds, to snare the #1 seed heading into the East Regional Tournament.

The band’s all here…and there’s no need to practice, because you can only play one note on those things.

Number 1 East at Number 2 Laramie…and we’re playing this game inside the UW Practice Facility…first half…Laramie wearing the maroon…Lexi Coca…with an awesome looking goal as she’ll get the bounce off of the goal post and find the back of the net. That was a sign of things to come and the score is now 1-nothing.

About 3 minutes later…this was just some flat out great hustle by Ariel Romero…as she’ll beat a defender to the ball, and then get the shot off, before the goalie can break-up the play. The result is a goal into an open net, and the sophomore earned that one. The Lady Plainsmen now have a 2-zip lead…about 15 minutes into this contest.

Actually, this game was supposed to be played in Cheyenne, but due to a recent snowstorm, and no way to make it up…they had to play it in the Gem City again…and the home team did not mind. Megan Dooley will blast one from about 20 yards out and the ball slips in again. They were playing with a chip on their shoulder, because the opposition got out of town with an overtime win, 3 weeks ago. Things are looking promising with the score at 3-nil.

East had to do something soon, or else they were going to be in trouble. Emily Breeden with a free kick from 40 yards out…the ball goes off of the goalie’s finger-tips and that’s going in. It was some much needed relief, but the Lady Thunderbirds still found themselves down in 3-to-1 hole.

A few minutes later…they were knocking on the door again. Great pass to Rachel Erickson…great shot as well, but Shelby Jackson with an equally great dive to get the block and she would recover to stop that scoring threat. The number 1 seed in the 4A east was on the line in this game, and she was making sure that her team had a chance to get it.

On the other end…more from the home team, although this was one of those moments that Shayne Carter is wishing she had back. The ball will squirt free and Haley Moon was in the right place at the right time, for an easy score. It was not pretty, but she’ll take it and Laramie would hold a 4-to-1 advantage, going into half-time.

Second half…both teams now going in the opposite direction…Erickson was denied earlier, but not this time, as she will play it simple and get the point for the visitors. Aside from that, not much else happened in the last 40 minutes. The rest of the game was pretty boring. In the end, East would lose their grip on the #1 seed heading into the regional tournament…as they would fall 4-to-2.
