(wyopreps.com) The National HS Finals Rodeo began yesterday in Springfield, Illinois. Several Wyoming Cowboys and Cowgirls are near the top in their events after two performances. There is a long way to the end of the first round, however, with four more perfs to go.
Kaleb Asay has the national lead in the saddle bronc riding. The Powell cowboy's 81 point ride was 8 points better than the second place ride for the day.
Wheatland's Kacey Hatten is fourth in the breakaway with Lander's Katie Felix 17th.
Cody Moucha of Cody had one of only seven qualified rides on the bulls. He is third at the moment.
Sonny Taylor of Thayne is sixth in the Barebacks.
In team roping, Troy Hubbard of Wheatland and his partner Blaine Phillips of Casper are 9th with cousins Dahl and Chance Nicholls of Kinnear/Riverton are 13th.
