Powell Athletes Compete In Oregon

August 20, 2007, 04:27 p.m. EST

(wyopreps.com) Three Powell Pioneer players traveled to Portland, Oregon to take part in the 9th Annual Northwest Prospect Games. Gianluca Giarrizzo of Powell, and Grant Geiser and Scotty Jameson of Lovell were selected to play with the Montana/Wyoming 2009 All Stars during the games. Teams representing the 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 graduating classes from British Columbia, Washington, Idaho, Utah, Oregon, Montana/Wyoming took part in the games that ended last Thursday. M/W ended 2-2-1 in the games, beating Oregon and Utah, tying Northwest Washington, and losing to British Columbia and Idaho. The 2-2-1 record bests the 0-4 record that the team had during last year's event. Jameson threw a one hitter in a 2-1 win over tourney favorite Utah striking out 12 and walking three. During the tourney Geiser and Jameson were 4-10 at the plate and Giarrizzo was 3-8 for a combined .392 average to lead the Montana/Wyoming team. A side trip to Cannon Beach, the site of the film "Goonies" and Hay Stack Rock was a highlight for the Wyoming trio.
