The WHSAA met in part one of their regular meeting Tuesday in Casper. The big issue of discussion was reclassification proposals. There was about two hours of discussion in the reclass committee alone. The board then spent an hour and half on the subject before passing both proposals.

The football proposal passed unanimously. That would be the football only proposal where the top ten teams would be in 4A with breaks down the line. That would put a great amount of teams in 1A, however, there has been great interest in 6 man football from a number of schools that currently play 11 man football and others that are willing to start a program.

There was a modification to the other proposal that would reclass all sports except football. In it, the top 14 teams would be in 4A. That moves Cody back to 4A and brings along Jackson. To be more fair and accurate, the committee will look at the new ADM numbers over the summer to decide better breaks if possible in the classifications. Both will go back to district meetings and then back to the board for second and final approval in September.

I coverd the circus when Oregon was going through their reclassification. It got pretty ugly. Hopefully the Wyoming school districts will be more rational than some of the Oregon school districts.

The WHSAA has dropped the ball when it comes to football. One would hope the WHSAA makes the right decisions for the benefit of all schools.

hopefully this passes, along with the neutral side in state championship games.
