Legends Retire Series I: Don Bremer

Lingle Wrestling coach Don Bremer retires after 28 years as head coach of Lingle Fort-Laramie Wrestling.

Don Bremer has been coaching for 32 years. 28 of them have been at Lingle.

Coach Donald D Bremer, graduated from Lingle Fort Laramie High School, Lingle Wyoming in 1971. His wrestling career in high school he placed all four years at State with 3rd, 2nd, 3rd, and Champion Senior year. He attended U of Wyo 71-72, Eastern Wyo College 72-73 then attended Chadron College and married Karen (his wife) in August of 73. 1973-74 season went 16-5, CSC District Champion, NAIA Outstanding Wrestler, Peru finals pinned 1:08 (the fastest pin in finals).

He qualified for Nationals, however, one professor would not allow him to miss class otherwise he would not graduate. Many went to the proper channels to allow him to participate with no success, so he didn’t get to go! 1974-75 Season record 12-7, NAIA District II Championship 2nd place.

Bremer graduated and started teaching August 1976 at Goshen County School District #1. He began in Huntley, WY by coaching Girls Volleyball, Assistant Basketball, Boy/Girls Track and in Torrington, WY Assistant Wrestling coach. 1980-82 He taught PE in Torrington at Lincoln Elementary School while being the Head Wrestling Coach at Lingle Fort Laramie High School and Assistant Football Coach at South East High School.

In 1982 until present he taught PE at Lingle Fort Laramie High School where he has continued to be their Head Wrestling coach for High School and Middle School, as well as coached football and where ever there was a need.

He has coached his own son and currently is coaching ten 2nd generation wrestling families. In 28 years as Head Wrestling Coach, Bremer has 13 State Championship winners with (1) 3 time champ (92’-94’)Rob Flock, (2) 2 time champs, (2000 & 2002)Kyle Pontarolo and (2003 & 2004)Anthony Pontarolo and 104 placers.
