WyoPreps.com and Central Wyoming College in Riverton are offering their first annual Sportscaster Camp in July.
The camp will be at the CWC campus in Riverton on Thursday July 17th through Saturday the 19th. It will be held in conjunction with the CWC basketball team camp and officials clinic on that same weekend.
The fee for the three days has not been set yet, but, would include two nights lodging on the CWC Campus, meals, a camp shirt, as well as instruction on play-by-play announcing, stat keeping for games, sports reporting, broadcasting technology, and possibly sports marketing.
CWC will be conducting a basketball and officials clinic where all camp contests will be refereed in game situations. This will allow for play by play broadcasting in a ‘game atmosphere’. After a day of classroom work, sports casters would then go to the gyms to broadcast games. The final day of the camp will be listening to the ‘broadcasts’ and giving feedback to improve. Football, baseball, and volleyball play by play will also be covered in the classroom.
CWC is offering ONE college credit for the course that will be instructed by WyoPreps co-founder and KVOW/KTAK Sports Director John Gabrielsen. He has been honored numerous times by the Wyoming Association of Broadcasters for Best Play by Play Most recently he has been awarded the Wyoming Coaches Association Hall of Fame Distinguished Services Award for Radio Sports Coverage. He brings over 15 years experience in high school and college play-by-play to the classroom to help improve new and younger broadcasters.
