North Takes Advantage Of South’s Inconsistency To Win 2014 Shrine Bowl

The North cashed in on 2 South turnovers, as well as other mistakes, to win the 2014 Shrine Bowl football game, 41-13.

Univ. of Wyoming bound Austin Fort of Gillette was named the offensive MVP, while Kirk Durtsche of Kelly Walsh was named the defensive MVP.

The North had 528 yards of total offense (344 yards rushing and 184 yards passing), while the South had 406 yards of total offense (65 yards rushing and 341 yards passing).

For the North, Fort was 8 of 15 passing for 103 yards and passed for 1 TD, and also ran for 69 yards.

Adding to the cause was Sterling Baker of Dubois who had 11 rushes for 121 yards and 2 TD's.

The North defense was led by Durtsche who had 13 tackles.

Anthony Lujan of Powell had 11.

The South did put up good offensive numbers, but most of it came in between the 20's.

The big playmakers were quarterback Austyn Matthews of Douglas and receiver Nick Blume from Rock Springs.

Matthews was 22 of 39 passing for 289 yards, 2 TD's and 1 INT.

The 2 TD's and 156 of the 289 yards went to Blume.

The South made it into the red zone 4 times, but only scored on their first trip in.
