After a long wait, football is back on the conversation menu.

The pre-season coaches and media poll is out and all but one of the top ranked teams is defending a title.

Cheyenne East, Powell, Big Horn and Cokeville all begin this season where they left off last November, at the top.

Guernsey-Sunrise, who finished in the top four in 6-man last year, is the #1 ranked team in that division.

In 4A, Cheyenne East took 13 of the 18 #1 ballots. The Thunderbirds play their first game on the road before having six straight at home, then end on the road for the final two. Last year, East was supposed to have 5 home, 4 away, but home games vs. Central and South, were played on the road instead, due to concerns of larger than normal crowds, trying to get around all the construction work at Okie Blanchard Stadium. So in 2014, the trend is reversed. Natrona is 2nd followed by Gillette, Sheridan, and Kelly Walsh. KW visits Gillette in zero week, in what is the only matchup vs. ranked teams to start the season.

3A see’s three time champion Powell again at the top. The winners of 27 in a row will have a tough test right out of the gate. Playing with heavy hearts, the Panthers will go to #2 Douglas in Week 1. Cody ranks third followed by Star Valley and Riverton. Actually, Douglas has a tough start to their schedule, opening up home vs. #1 Powell, at #3 Cody and home vs. #4 Star Valley in their first 3 games.

2A has Big Horn on top with 12 of the 19 top votes. Mountain View is a solid second with Lovell third, Thermopolis Fourth and Newcastle fifth. Lyman got a first place vote but not enough support to be in the top five. The #1 ranked Rams go to #3 Lovell to kick off their season in week 1.

1A puts Cokeville and Lusk 1 and 2. They nearly split the 14 #1’s in half. The Panthers take on 2A #2 Mountain View in their first game, as they have done the last several years. Southeast ranks third, followed by Rocky Mountain, then Lingle-Ft. Laramie.

Six-man has Guernsey on top with the defending champions from Meeteetse 2nd. Kaycee is third, Dubois fourth and Midwest fifth. Dubois is at Guernsey for the big game in this division in week one, and then the Vikings visit Kaycee in week 2.
