Regional Champions Crowned on the Mats; State Brackets Available
The 4A East regional wrestling tournament was held at Gillette while 4A West is at Evanston. The host Camels won by 19.5 points over runner-up East. The Thunderbirds held a slight lead after day one but couldn’t hold it as the Camels won four weight classes. In all, Gillette placed 17 in the top four places. East won three weights and had 13 place in the top four.
4A West results saw Natrona win over the host Red Devils by 24.5 points. The Mustangs won four titles individually after putting six in the finals. NC placed 14 in the top four places.
3A tournaments are at Rawlins (East) and Lander (West). The Outlaws hosted a regional event for the first time since 2007. Douglas easily won by 80 points over Worland, who came in 2nd. The Bearcats won 7 different titles on their way to the 80 point win. They had put 10 in the finals.
In the West in Lander, Powell won by 40 over Lander, who came in 2nd. The Panthers put 11 in the finals and won five of them. The host Tigers put 8 in the championships and won three. Wyoming bound Jordan Hanson (Lander) came back from injury a couple of weeks ago to repeat as regional champion.
2A tournament are at Saratoga (East) and Shoshoni (West). In the East, Moorcroft won by 52 points over runner-up Wright. The Wolves placed 13 wrestlers 3rd or higher. They put 10 of them in the finals winning four titles. Wright also won four titles.
In the 2A West in Shoshoni, Lovell won by 22.5 points over 2nd place Cokeville. The Bulldogs won five titles, Cokeville won three.
