The valedictorians of sorts have been named for the Wyoming High School Athletic Class of 2012.

Tanner Simpson of Lander and Mikayla Brower of Torrington, were named the 2012 winner of the Milward-Simpson Award, which is considered the highest honor that a high school senior can receive.

To be a nominee, an athlete must excel in multiple sports throughout their high school career.

Tanner Simpson - Lander: Simpson earned 10 letters, 6 all-conference and 6 all-state awards in basketball, football, and track and field. He recently played in the Wyoming Shrine Bowl football game, and holds every major football receiving category at Lander Valley HS. Simpson was a 2-time all-state selection in football and basketball and also excelled in track, claiming 3 state titles this year and also earned 4 "Best of the Best" awards, during his career. He will attend the University of Wyoming as a preferred football walk-on.

Note: There is no family relation or connection between Milward Simpson and Tanner Simpson.

Mikayla Brower - Torrington: Brower earned 12 varsity letters, 9 all-conference and 7 all-state awards in basketball, cross country, soccer, tennis and track and field. She also earned the unique distinction of garnering all-state honors in 4 different sports (basketball, cross-country, soccer and tennis). Brower excelled on the basketball court, earning all-state honors following her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons, and was selected to play in the WY vs. SD and WY vs. MT basketball all-star games, along with the Wyoming Coaches Association basketball all-star game, and was a Gatorade Athlete of the Year finalist. She will attend Western Nebraska Community College on a basketball scholarship.
