Wrestling Preview

There are a lot of wrestling events this weekend across the state.  There are even a couple of events out of state for our Wyopreps.

The Shane Shatto Memorial in Douglas was named for the late Wyoming Cross Country runner that was killed with 7 of his Cowboy teammates in 2001 south of Laramie.    The event is the big one in state this weekend with the following teams on the invite list:   Buffalo, Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, Cody, Douglas, Glenrock, Gillette, Green River, Jackson, Kelly Walsh, Lander, Laramie, Lovell, Lusk, Moorcroft, Natrona County, Newcastle, Powell, Rawlins, Riverton, Saratoga, Sheridan, Thermopolis, Torrington, Upton, Wheatland, Worland, and  Wright.  Out of state teams include Alliance, Chadron, and Gering Nebraska along with a school called Cherokee Trail.  They will wrestle Friday and Saturday.

Wright New Years Duals:

The Battlecats will be hosting a small dual tournament to begin the year.   The Panthers host Sundance, Gillette JV, Sturgis JV, Lingle, and Lovell.    Matches begin at 9:30 and continue through the day on Saturday.

The Wright Wrestling team is doing something unique for lunch.   It will be a FREE WILL OFFERING with proceeds going to a scholarship fund for Wes Ridgway’s baby boy, Tallon.   Ridgway was a Greybull senior who passed away over the holiday break.   He is survived by a one year old son, Tallon.   The proceeds from this event will be presented to the family at the Greybull Memorial Wrestling tournament later this month.

Kemmerer and Burns also have meets scheduled this weekend but no information was provided.  Out of state events are the Rollie Lane in Boise, ID, the Uintah Tournament of Champions in Vernal, UT, and the Bozeman Invite in Montana.   Check back for results this weekend here on Wyopreps.com.
