Reclassification, practice start dates for basketball and wresting, the 3A soccer clock, and seeding for the 3A Soccer State Tournament were some of the topics of discussion at the first fall 2017 meeting of the Wyoming High School Activities Association Board of Directors.

3A Soccer Season Proposal:

Coaches felt that the structure of 3A (4 quadrants of 3 teams each) does not reward the top teams to represent at the state tournament. The proposal was that all 3A teams play each other at least once, with some meet in the middle game, and the points for wins/ties would count towards seeding at the state tournament. 3A is supposed to have 11 teams starting in spring 2019, although there is the possibility of a Lyman/Mountain View team trying to enter the picture in the near future. Motion defeated.

3A Soccer Time:

The proposal was that 3A be like 4A and that the clock on the scoreboard, if available, would be used to keep the official time during a game. This would start in spring 2018. Motion passes on first reading. Must undergo a second reading to be official.

Basketball and Wrestling practice:

The proposal is to allow practice to start on the Monday of Thanksgiving week, instead of the week after, with no practice on Thanksgiving Day and Friday. The idea is to give players more time to meet the practice requirement before the first game of the season, especially if weather forces a school to close for a day and cancel practice. The start date of the regular season would not change. Whether a team actually starts practice on Thanksgiving week is up to them. This would start in the 2018-19 school year. Motion passes on first reading. Must undergo a second reading to be official.

Average Daily Membership Numbers for 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years:

Numbers are put together by high school principals who turn them into the WY Dept. of Education, who turns them into the State Legislature for funding. The WHSAA uses the numbers to determine which school will be in which class for various sports.

As far as which teams will be in which conference, that will be determined by AD's and Coaches later.

Teams have the option to opt up or opt down a class, but if they opt down, they are ineligible for the post-season.
