This is the final stretch of the regular season...and some teams are still in need of a big win, vs. a ranked opponent to prepare for the post-season.

In the latest coaches/media rankings, Laramie is the unanimous #1, and secured the #1 seed for next week's regional tournament, when they beat #3 Central earlier this week. #2 Gillette and #4 Sheridan have unfinished business to settle this Friday, because both teams played 100 minutes the first time, and accomplished nothing. It's a 3-team race for first in the 4A West. Green River and Rock Springs are tied for #5, and battle each other Wednesday, at RS. The Tigers are a team that has recently risen from the dead, and are within striking distance of the #1 seed for the west regional tournament. After that, on Friday, the Wolves travel to Riverton to face a Wolverine team that missed the rankings, by 1 vote.

In 3A boys...it's Jackson title to lose. The Broncs are the unanimous #1, and have racked up big win after big win the last few weeks. They needed OT to beat now #4 Buffalo last week, and then shutout now #2 Lander earlier this week. Elsewhere, Star Valley moves up to #3 after their big win vs. the Bison, while Powell holds at #5.

There are a few question marks in both of the latest girls rankings. Undefeated Green River did collect more first place votes than East, but the Lady Thunderbirds retain the #1 4A ranking, despite losing last week. The #2 Lady Wolves might have an argument for the top spot, but the counter-argument could be their schedule. East will try to wrap up the #1 seed for the regional tournament on Thursday at home vs. #4 Laramie. Sheridan moved up to #3 after their big road win last weekend, and have another good test, with their home finale, this Friday vs. #5 Gillette.

In the 3A girls rankings, Lander is still the unanimous #1. Star Valley stays put at #2, but has momentum after getting their first ever win vs. Jackson last week. #3 Cody is the question mark in the rankings. The Fillies moved up to #3, yet if you include the loss vs. #5 Worland earlier this week, they have lost 5 straight...all by 1 goal each. They have something to prove this Saturday at SV. Buffalo slips to #4, and visits Worland late next week in the final regular season game.
