A blast of frigid arctic air and snow could disrupt basketball plans this weekend...and a number of good matchups based on the latest coaches/media rankings could be in jeopardy of not being played.

The top 3 teams in 4A are unchanged from last week. Kelly Walsh is on top, followed by Gillette and Cheyenne Central. Cheyenne East is in at #4, and Rock Springs is at #5. Both the Thunderbirds and Tigers had pretty good opening weekends. Just about every 4A team this weekend is preparing to face out of state competition. Next Tuesday, KW visits East.

Lander will be the place to be this weekend for the best 3A competition. Weather-permitting, the top 4 teams are all scheduled to compete. #2 Douglas has the hardest schedule with against both #3 Cody and #1 Riverton in back-to-back days. #4 Wheatland will also cross paths with the Wolverines. Meanwhile, #5 Star Valley will start their season this weekend in Idaho.

It's also a big weekend in the 2A rankings. #2 Big Horn needs all the home court advantage that they can get, with #3 Wind River and #4 Wyoming Indian in town this weekend. Pine Bluffs is the unanimous #1 ranked game and will spend the weekend competing in Lusk, again weather permitting. #5 Lovell will mix it up with 3A competition this weekend in Lander.

The new 1A ranks saw some change from last week. Kaycee is up to #1, while Burlington is down to #2. Lingle-Ft. Laramie and Cokeville impressed the voters enough to earn the #3 and #4 rankings repsectively. The Doggers will host a number of 1A teams this weekend. Farson-Eden and St. Stephens share the #5 ranking, heading into the last weekend of competition, ahead of the holiday break.
