Boys basketball teams may be back on the court to start 2014, but the first coaches/media rankings of the New Year, might still be on an extended holiday break, because not much changed.

Kelly Walsh reclaims the #1 ranking in the 4A poll. The Trojans may have dropped 2 games vs. Montana teams in December, but they are unbeaten vs. Wyoming teams, and 2 very convincing wins last week vs. East and Sheridan, reinforced their ranking. Gillette holds at #2, while East slips to #3. Sheridan claims the #4 ranking, while #5 is undecided with both Riverton and Rock Springs staking a claim to the spot. Not much is excitement is on the schedule this week, as far as ranked team vs. ranked team goes.

There was some slight movement in the 3A ranks, but one team will get a chance to prove themselves this weekend. Cody and Lander are still #1 and #2. Rawlins and Douglas changed spots, with the Outlaws at #3 and the Bearcats down to #4. Douglas visits Rawlins on Friday, and the hosts #5 Wheatland on Saturday. The Bulldogs though have to share that ranking with Powell. One interesting inter-class game, is scheduled for Thursday, in a Fremont County battle, as #2 3A Lander visits #5 4A Riverton.

The top 4 in 2A remain the same. It's Wyoming Indian as the unanimous #1, followed by Greybull, Lusk and Moorcroft. Big Piney climbs in at #5, pushing Rocky Mountain out of the top 5 to start 2014. Not much is on the schedule this weekend, so an unranked team could have a chance to pull off an upset and move up.

Burlington is the unanimous top dog in 1A. The voters were impressed with 3 straight days of wins, in very convincing fashion last week, including victories vs. 2 2A teams. Meanwhile, Guernsey and Upton are looking up at the Huskies, as the other 2 occupy the #2 and #3 rankings. The southwest occupies the last 2 spots, with Little Snake River at #4 and Encampment at #5.
