Week 2 is a playoff preview for the big class teams according to the newest coaches/media rankings, while the smaller classes are still figuring things out.

The top 4 teams battle each other this weekend in Class 4A. #1 at #2 and #3 at #4. 3-time defending champ Sheridan visits 2-time runner-up Natrona, while Cheyenne East go to Thunder Basin, in another matchup of undefeated teams. Next week is also big, when TB visits Sheridan...but teams need to get by this week first. Kelly Walsh retains the #5 ranking this week. Despite losing last week, the Trojans took the Thunderbirds down to the wire, which impressed voters enough to keep them in the top 5.

Like 4A, there's no change in the new 3A rankings, but this weekend's games don't have as much hype. Defending champ and #1 Cody hosts Worland, while #2 Star Valley, #3 Torrington and #5 Douglas all play out of state competition. #4 Green River will entertain Rawlins, as they prepare for next weekend's big game at Torrington.

2A is the most difficult class to figure so far. The top 3 teams lost last week, but 2 of those 3 lost close games vs. teams in a bigger class, so the voters cut them a break. Glenrock moves up to #1, while Buffalo is now #2. Defending champ Mountain View falls to #3, after losing to 1A Cokeville, which isn't a big upset considering Cokeville's history. Wheatland and Greybull hold at #4 and #5 respectively, and both play ranked 1A opponents this weekend. There are several teams not far out from the top 5. The Moorcroft at Burns winner this week, should get some more attention.

1A has a team in the top 5, that hasn't been ranked since 2009. Wind River claims the #5 spot, after getting their first win ever at 2A Lovell last week. The Cougars home field is undergoing repairs, so their home games this season will be played at Ethete. Big Horn is still ranked #1, and has a big game this weekend at #5 2A Greybull. Pine Bluffs is still #2, while Cokeville jumps ahead of Upton-Sundance for #3, bumping the Patriots to #4. U-S has an interesting game this weekend at #4 2A Wheatland.

4 of the top 5 teams will battle each other in 6-man this weekend.  #1 Farson-Eden is the only team not involved, as they will take their forfeit vs. Ten Sleep, and play Saratoga this Friday. #3 Little Snake River travels to #2 Burlington in the west conference opener for both teams. Meanwhile, East conference play also starts, as #5 Midwest hosts #4 H.E.M. on Saturday. 3-time defending champ Kaycee has been kicked out of the top 5, and we're not sure when was the last time that happened.
