Coaches and players say every game is important, and if you look at this week's schedule and the new coaches/media rankings...there's no argument there.

The voting was tight in 4A as one vote separated #1 from #2 and #3 from #4. Gillette and Sheridan maintain the top 2 spots. The next 3 games for the Broncs are going to put them to the test...at Cheyenne East, at Rock Springs and home vs. Gillette. Cheyenne South flip-flops with Rock Springs and are now the #3 ranked team, bumping the Tigers down to #4. Cheyenne East is the unanimous #5 and hosts #2 Sheridan this weekend.

The stakes are pretty high in 3A this week. Games have nothing to do with playoff positioning, rather which team is truly deserving of their ranking, as 4 of the top 5 play each other. Star Valley is the unanimous #1, but if they want to keep that ranking, the Braves will have to do something they have yet to do...win at #3 Douglas. Another matchup featuring 2-0 teams has #2 Green River at #4 Torrington. The Trail Blazers share the ranking with Buffalo. The Bison host unranked Worland, but in that rivalry, the rankings don't matter. It's just as big of game regardless.

2A teams are busy with conference games. The top 4 are unchanged from last week, meaning it's still Glenrock, Greybull, Big Horn and Mountain View. Pinedale is new to the rankings this week at #5. The Wranglers upended the defending champs and former #5 Wheatland, and now take their place. Pinedale visits MV this weekend. Glenrock and Greybull could get a good challenge this week as well at Newcastle and home vs. Lovell respectively.

The top 4 in the latest 1A rankings are all from the East. That should come as little surprise considering how strong the conference has been in the past. Upton-Sundance and Tongue River are the top 2, while Southeast moves up 1 spot to #3. Pine Bluffs is getting noticed and the voters put the Hornets at #4. Shoshoni and Rocky Mountain end up sharing the #5 ranking. Shoshoni hosts U-S this weekend. Elsewhere, Cokeville Coach Todd Dayton goes for career win #300, and the Panthers will be in for a tough game at #2 TR on Saturday.

There was a little movement in the latest 6-man rankings, but the top 5 teams are still in the top 5. #1 Meeteetse has a big road game this weekend at #4 Little Snake River. Farson-Eden is up to #2, and could get a challenge against an undefeated St. Stephens team, that's looking to prove themselves. Kaycee slips one spot to #3, and Midwest holds steady at #5. The Oilers visit Guernsey-Sunrise this weekend to play a Viking team that's hoping to spring an upset.

Disclaimer: The rankings have no official say on post-season positioning, and are only to be used as a measuring stick on the regular season. Please don't read too much into the rankings.
