Because of the Christmas Holiday, we moved up the release of the latest girls basketball coaches/media rankings to avoid conflict.

It's a tight race on top of 4A. Sheridan is still #1, but undefeated and #2 East is 1 vote behind them. Both teams will be in Cheyenne after the break, but not against each other. That happens later. Gillette falls one spot to #3, while Central retains the #4 ranking. As for #5, that's a spot no one wants, because that team hasn't been faring well. Natrona and Rock Springs share the spot this time.

3A for now is Douglas and everyone else. The defending champ Lady Bearcats have a huge lead in the polls, ahead of #2 Mountain View. Rawlins dropped one spot to #3, after losing their first game this past weekend. Powell and Star Valley share the #4 rankings.

2A has a change up in the top 4 spots, although no upsets happened last week. Southeast has climbed to the top of the mountain, replacing Thermopolis, who has to settle sharing the #2 spot with Lyman. Coach Dianna Moser got her 700th win last week, helping Tongue River to a 3-0 record last week, yet the Lady Eagles drop 1 spot to #4. Undefeated Burns holds at #5. Things will get very interesting after the break, as #1 SE, #5 Burns and unranked, and undefeated Pine Bluffs all travel to TR.

The 1A rankings show a little movement. Defending champs Lingle-Ft. Laramie took advantage of 3 big home wins, to move up from #5 to #3. That was about it. Cokeville and Burlington stay at #1 and #2, while Hulett and Encampment each drop 1 spot, to #4 and #5 respectively.

Disclaimer: The polls have no official say or use on post-season positioning, and are only to be used as a measuring stick on the regular season. Please don’t read too much into the rankings.

Because of the winter break, the next rankings won't be released until January 15, 2015.
