Here are the standings for games played up to and including May 11th.

3A NW Tie-Breaker:

Before the weekend, we called the WHSAA to try to figure out how the 3-way would be broken, since Worland, Cody and Powell all split with each other.

Here's the explanation that we were given:

Any games played at the Worland tournament (April 11 and 12) are not used towards tie-breakers.

You check for common opponents that were played at the same place...meaning find an opponent that all the tied teams hosted or traveled to.

For Worland, Cody and Powell...there are 3 common opponents. All 3 hosted Jackson, all 3 played at Pinedale, and all 3 played at Star Valley.

Worland has a win home vs. Jackson...Cody and Powell don't.

Worland and Powell won at Pinedale...Cody didn't.

All 3 lost at Star Valley.

So Worland went 2-1 vs. common opponents, Powell went 1-2 and Cody went 0-3, thus the Lady Warriors get the #1 seed.

The tie-breaker procedure is restarted to break the tie between Cody and Powell.

There are 7 common opponents between the 2.

Both played Jackson, Star Valley, and Pinedale twice and both played at Lander.

Cody went 2-5 (lost both vs. Jackson, split with SV, split with Pinedale, lost at Lander), whereas Powell went 1-6 (lost both vs. Jackson, lost both vs. SV, split with Pinedale, lost at Lander).

Cody's home win vs. Star Valley at the beginning of the season would pay off, for the #2 seed.

All 3 teams had Buffalo on their schedule, but Worland and Powell play the Lady Bison at home, and Cody played at Buffalo.

The common opponent tie-breaker states all tied teams must play the same common opponent at home, or all visit the common opponent.

Buffalo does not factor into the tie-breaker.
