Boys Basketball Rankings: February 23rd
There is very little change in the polls, in all 4 classes of boys basketball heading into the post-season.
The 4A poll is unchanged from last week. It's Gillette, followed by Rock Springs, Natrona, Evanston and Laramie. The only game of note this weekend, has #2 Rock Springs at #4 Evanston on Saturday, in a game that should decide the top seed in the west.
There's only a slight change in the 3A poll. There are 2 teams tied for #5...Douglas and Powell. Other then that, the top 4 remains the same with Torrington (unanimous #1), followed by Buffalo, Rawlins and Wheatland. There will be some interesting battles this week as #1 Torrington visits #3 Rawlins on Saturday. On that same day, #5 (tie) Douglas will play at #2 Buffalo. The game of interest takes place Thursday night, when #5 (tie) Powell visits Worland, in a game that should decide the top seed out of the west. If Worland wins, Lander might have a chance, but the Tigers would need to beat the Warriors, and hope Powell loses again to Cody...if that chance exists.
This is the FINAL poll of the season for 2A and 1A. The 2A is unchanged as Big Horn takes their undefeated record over to Newcastle for the regionals, along with #5 Lusk. Lovell, Wyoming Indian and Kemmerer rank #2, #3 and #4 and will battle at their regional tournament in Riverton.
Just a slight change in the 1A poll. Undefeated Little Snake River is still the unanimous #1, but St. Stephens is back up to #2, and H.E.M. moves up to #3. Kaycee falls to #4 and Ten Sleep holds at #5. Although Burlington didn't crack the final poll, they may have to be the team to look out for. After an 0-6 start to the season, the Huskies are 11-3 since, and that stretch includes wins over SS and TS, in the last 2 weeks.
