Laramie, Wyo. (Sept. 26, 2011) -- University of Wyoming head women's basketball coach Joe Legerski announced today that guard Kristen Scheffler's career has come to an end because of persistent back injuries. Scheffler will remain on scholarship to pursue her degree at the University of Wyoming in social science.

"Kristen has done everything possible to return to the court," said Legerski.  "Unfortunately, her basketball career has been cut short. Her offensive talent is second to none and will be missed on the court."

A 5-10 guard from Lovell, Wyo., she played in six games before an injury sidelined her for remainder of the 2010-12 season. She was averaging 4.8 points and 1.5 rebounds. In her first two years with the Cowgirls, she averaged 8.6 points and two boards.

Legerski also announced that true freshman Fatima Thiam will not play this season because of an injury. The 6-6, center, from Dakar, Senegal tore her right ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) in pre-season workouts.
