Recently the Wyoming Legion Baseball teams met in Casper to discuss plans for the 2012 season and changes are happening.

This time there will be a little more separation between double-A and single-A teams.

According to Casper Oilers coach Bobby Schoonover, the state format will be similar to that of the College World Series. All 4 'AA' teams will be on one side of the bracket, playing double-elimination format (Rock Springs declared intentions to join 'AA' level). The survivor is the 'AA' state champion.

Then 4 'A' teams will be on the other side, playing double-elimination format, with the survivor being declared the 'A' state champ. The 'A' team could then challenge the 'AA' winner afterwards.

As for the regular season...the 4 'AA' teams (Cheyenne , Casper, Gillette, Rock Springs) will play 1 9-inning contest vs. each other, home and away, during the season to determine seeding. 1 vs. 4 and 2 vs. 3 at states.

The 'A' league will have the same format as the past few years (northwest, northeast, southwest, southeast), but JV teams from Cheyenne, Casper, and Gillette will compete in the 'A' league, to take the place of their 'AA' clubs. Teams will play 1 9-inning game, home and away vs. the other teams in their quadrant, during the regular season.

Northwest: Cody, Powell, Lovell, Riverton

Northeast: Gillette JV, Casper JV, Douglas, Sheridan

Southwest: Evanston, Jackson, Rawlins, Green River

Southeast: Laramie, Wheatland, Torrington, Cheyenne JV.

The North district tournament will be played in Powell and the south district tournament will be played in Jackson. Only the top 2 teams from each district tournament will go to states. District tournament will be a modified double-elimination format. The first team in each bracket to go 3-0 will advance, while the losers bracket will determine the other team.

For the 'A' teams at states, it would be North 1 vs. South 2, and South 1 vs. North 2.

The state tournament will be held in Casper.

The only remaining question is, will this format satisfy the National Legion Board?

The 'AA' Northwest Regionals will be held in Billings, MT, while the 'A' Northwest Regionals will be held in Burley, ID.
