Jay Rhoades took over as the Douglas head coach in football back in 2006 and the Bearcats have had just one losing season in his tenure. Douglas has made the 3A semi-finals for the last 3 years and certainly wants to take that next big step forward.

The Cats started the season with a 35-19 home win over Jackson; a victory that was methodical in nature. The team has a very good returning quarterback from last season in Trey Rinn who was named all-state and was responsible for 23 touchdowns in 2022. Douglas looks to be burly on the line of scrimmage with all-state returnee Tegan Seeds playing on both sides of the ball. Offensive lineman Malachy Lehnen was an all-conference pick a year ago and so was linebacker Carter Archuleta.

3A will be a tough classification this year once again with Star Valley and Cody as bonafide contenders. Douglas will be a tough opponent this season and will be at home on Friday to take on Gering, Nebraska. Jackson has to replace some key components from last season and lost their week zero game to Teton, Idaho. The Broncs will be on the road at Wood River, ID this week. Take a peek at some great photos of Friday's game in Converse County compliments of Tammy Griebel. You can find those in our gallery below. Enjoy!
