The Lady Braves prevailed against the Fillies, in a game that pitted the top offense vs. the top defense.

It’s Friday…that means it’s date night! You’re never too old to take your significant other out to a game!

#2 Star Valley at #1 Cody…first half…Star Valley wearing the maroon…Number 5 is Jessica Woodford…the leading scorer in the state…but coming into this game…Raven Johnson yet to give up a goal. The sophomore will win that exchange…between the invincible force and the immovable object.

On the other end…the defending 3A state champs had their moments to strike…Kelsey Cross will keep it on the ground, however Hannah Carlise put down a road block to deny access and that would eliminate that scoring threat for the time being.

Later…goalies hate penalty kicks…and the Fillies got called for a trip in the box…Woodford steps up…aims for the low corner…Johnson broke in the right direction…she just was not fast enough, and the junior from Afton tacks on #17 on the season…more importantly, the Lady Braves now lead 1-nil.

Back to the other end…the home team has a break-away opportunity…but good defense by Shelby Brog as she will force Cross to shoot right at Carlise. There was not much room or time to try anything else…and the score would remain 1-zip going into halftime.

Second half…it took awhile before anything happened that was highlight worthy. Darby Bell decided to take the high road with about 7 minutes to go, and that’s how you ring one up. A much needed equalizer, as the senior would help Cody tie this game up at 1 goal a-piece.

However…7 minutes is more than plenty of time to undo a tie…in fact Star Valley only needed 2...Sadie Hokum…a freshman…with a left footed lifter and the top shelf was becoming a popular place for goals. The visitors have reclaimed the momentum and the lead…they’re now up 2-to-1.

…and there was time to get one more in…with less than 2 minutes to go…Abby Nicoll from about 25 yards out…there’s the secret….keep it high and you can score on the un-score-able. That strategy worked in this game…and the Lady Braves stake their claim to the #1 ranking…by taking out the Fillies on the road…3-to-1.
