Rawlins all-star runner Sydney Thorvaldson will not run the 2021 State Track Meet after a stress fracture in her foot that she suffered earlier this year. Thorvaldson has run a number of elite, national events and wasn't feeling exactly right prior to the Wyoming State Indoor Track Meet. She did not run in the three distance races at the indoor meet but did run in the 1600 medley that earned Rawlins a spot on top of the podium.

Thorvaldson has not run in an outdoor event in Wyoming in 2021 and after some consultation, she decided to shut it down in preparation for her collegiate career at the University of Arkansas.

With her prep career-ending, Thorvaldon will go down as the most talented, if not the most talented distance runner in the history of the state. She is a four-time 3A cross country state champion with an overall state record of 16.59.6 set in 2020. She was named the Gatorade National Cross Country Athlete of the Year after victories in prestigious national events.

In track and field, she is the two-time 3A state champion in the 800, 1600 and, 3200 meter runs with her junior season scratched due to the pandemic.

We had a chance to chat with Thorvaldson at the 3A East Regional meet in Torrington about her foot, the disappointment of skipping the state meet, and her future at Arkansas.
