One of the finest sprinters in the state is Mindy Russell from Wind River and she showed how dominate she can be by winning the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes at the 2A West Regional in Shoshoni. The junior took the 100 in 12.61 and followed that up with a 25.65 in the 200. Russell wrapped things up with a time of 58.8 to win the 400, the only one in the field to break the 1 minute mark. Oh wait!. Russell ran on Wind River's winning 4 by 400 meter relay team. In those other relays, Kemmerer looked great by winning the 4 by 100, the 4 by 800 and the 1600 sprint medley. In the distances races in this regional meet, Lue Herbert of Wind River captured the 800 in 2.23.82 while Brooke Flock of Greybull ran 5.55.69 to take the 1600. The 3200 winner was Sammi Butler from Kemmerer in 13.19.65 Over in the hurdles, Kemmerer senior Brooklyn Hagler took the 100 with a time of 17.37 with Lue Herbert of Wind River taking home another medal with a time of 47.76 in the 300. One up and coming athlete is Carleigh Reish of Tongue River. She was competitive in every event she was in and won the long jump,going 16 feet and a quarter. Teryn Thatcher from Kemmerer leaped 35 feet 6 inches to win the triple jump. Taylin Boettcher from Rocky Mountain took the podium in the high jump, clearing 4-10. Bailee Loftus of Rocky cleared 9-6 to win the pole vault. Her teammate, Taylor Despain threw 31-8.5 to win the shot with Cloe Ramsey from Shoshoni leaped 97 feet 1 inch to take the discus, In the team standings in the 2A West regional for the ladies, Kemmerer wins the meet with 141 points. Wind River was 2nd with 118 points and Shoshoni 3rd with 95. We have some video highlights of the meet. Enjoy!
