Sammie Cyrus of Dubois was a 4-time qualifier at the 2A State Wrestling Tournament and slowly but surely made it to the top of the mountain with a State Championship at 106 pounds. He pinned Ace Arnold of Saratoga and received a rousing ovation from the crowd at the Ford Center in Casper on Saturday afternoon. He concluded the season with a record of 25-7 and was a man on a mission.

Very few people in the Ford Center would have upper body strength displayed by Cyrus in his wrestling career. He is a double amputee due to a childhood illness, but that didn't stop him one bit. His upper body power helped him dismantle some of his opponents plus he had a great attitude about the sport he loves and life in general.

A year ago, Cyrus made the championship final at 106 pounds in 2A and lost to Big Piney's Caleb Brown by fall so that was motivation enough for 2025. He rang up 120 wins in his career and earned a boat-load of respect in the process.

We had a chance to talk to him about that title match and that coveted championship feeling.
