The skiing season for high school competitors is now a full go, as both downhill and cross country teams are in action on the same weekend for the first time.

Alpine Skiing

The 2021 season started with practice back in late November, but Thursday and Friday is the first high school competition. Laramie hosts its two-day invitational at Snowy Range Ski Area.

The downhill skiers will be competing on Sundance run this week. The racing will feature giant slalom racing on Thursday and slalom on Friday. The Laramie Invitational has start times of 11 a.m. on Thursday and 10 a.m. on Friday. There will be a one-hour break in-between the two runs.

Casper Kelly Walsh, Casper Natrona County, Cody, Jackson, and Pinedale will join the host school, Laramie, for action on the slopes.

Thursday Giant Slalom Results

The Jackson girls go 1-2-3. Taylor Smith wins with a two-run combined time of 1:06.33.

Jackson's Eddie Owens wins with a two-run time of 1:08.17.

Friday Slalom Results

Jackson's Morgan Kilmain takes the top spot on the podium with a winning time of 1:25.92 in the girls' division.

Natrona's Cody Crawford wins a tightly contested boys' division by 0.3 seconds with a time of 1:31.39.

Final Team Standings:

Girls: Jackson 123, Cody 106, Laramie 47, Kelly Walsh 33, Natrona County 23, Pinedale 10

Boys: Cody 112, Kelly Walsh 69, Natrona County 66, Jackson 49, Laramie 43, Pinedale 3

Nordic Skiing

This will be the second weekend of competition for cross country skiers. For the first time this season, the teams are split up at two different destinations.

The first change is the Pinedale meet has been moved to Jackson. Lander and Pinedale will join host Jackson.

The other schools are competing on Casper Mountain. Kelly Walsh and Natrona County host Laramie and the Cody/Sheridan squad.

The skiing on Friday features a 7.5Km skate or freestyle race beginning at 1 p.m. in Jackson. The Casper race is at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Friday Jackson Freestyle Results

Jackson swept the top 3 spots in the girls' race and top four in the boys' race. Winners were Natalie O'Brien (26:14.1) and Mason Wheeler (22:04.6).

Saturday Jackson Classic Results

Kate Brigham of Jackson dominated the girls' division with a win by over one minute. She skied the course in 16:57.9. Bridger Stiles of Jackson won the boys' division by over 37 seconds with a time of 15:13.1.

Saturday Casper Freestyle Results

The two Casper schools swept the top five spots in the girls' race with Kelly Walsh taking three of the top four. KW's Samantha Veauthier won the race with a time of 20:13.4.

On the boys' side, Joel Kornkven of Natrona County out-dueled Laramie's Tristan Smith and Cody's Marshall Brookins. Kornkven's winning time was 17:08.
