Nichols Siblings and Hubert Earn WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Awards [VIDEO]

A sister-brother duo and a football player who helped his team make history are this week’s WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Award winners presented by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming.

Senior Lily Nichols and freshman Tate Nichols of Wheatland High School set or matched school records on the golf course last week.

William Hubert from Casper Christian School helped the Mountaineers to their first WHSAA victory as a sanctioned Class 1A 6-man football program.

The nominating coach said it best, “Tate and Lily swept the Torrington Invite. Tate Nichols, a freshman, shot a 68 and 69 at Cottonwood Country Club in Torrington. He set two new school records for 18 and 36 holes and helped WHS to a 2nd place finish 3 strokes off first. Lily shot a 79 and 81 for first place and tied her 36-hole school record, this helped WHS seal a girls’ team victory at the invite. It is rare to have a brother/sister duo at the top of the leaderboard in golf. Tate and Lily have set 8 school records for both individual and team categories over the past two weeks for Wheatland golf.”

Hubert led Casper Christian to a season-opening 61-53 upset of No. 5 Kaycee on the road. Hubert ran for 227 yards and five TDs. He added 25 defensive points, which included three tackles for loss and two interceptions. He returned one for a touchdown.

WyoPreps visited with all three student-athletes on Wednesday to discuss their performances on the course and football field last week. The Nichols duo spoke about their brother-sister dynamic and how they played at Torrington. Hubert touched on his game, their first official win in school history, what it means to the program, and more in the video at the top of the story.

These performances were for the week of Aug. 21-26, 2023. Performances do not carry over to another week.

The WyoPreps Athlete of the Week nominations are accepted each week from 5 p.m. on Fridays through 9 a.m. on Mondays. Anyone can nominate a student-athlete or team. Winners are announced each Wednesday.
