The 2023 Wyoming High School Tennis season is upon us. The first practice for all 16 teams began on August 7 and the first contest will be on August 12.

The seven-week season has a lot in store as it all leads up to state in Gillette from September 21 through 23.

Regionals will take place on the 15 and 16 of September. The North will be at Thunder Basin, while Cheyenne South will host the South teams.

On the girls' side, Kelly Walsh is looking for a three-peat going into this season. Taylor Nokes, Ella Catchpole, and Harper Klinger are all champions returning for the Trojans. Their biggest competition this season will be last year’s runner-ups, Sheridan. The Broncs return all doubles teams including Gabby Rabon and Alli Ligocki who won #1 doubles at state last year. Cheyenne Central does return their #2 singles winner, Hailey Mathis-Breitkopf. Ashli Smedley will also return for the Indians; she finished runner-up at #1 singles. Jackson and Laramie are also teams to keep an eye on this season as they each return multiple players.

Jackson will be back to defend their 2022 boys’ title. Though they only have one champion coming back, they still return a lot from last year’s team. Laramie looks to be one of the other strongest contenders, as they have many players returning from their second-place finish last season, including Declan O’Conner, the #2 singles champion. Cheyenne South’s Andrew Lock will be back to battle for a second #1 singles trophy. Green River may be in the running as well, as the Wolves have a few doubles players coming back. Cody, who finished third in 2022, lost all but one champion.
