Pair of Stellar Powell Athletes Sign College Letter's of Intent

A couple of athletes from Powell will be taking their talents to the next level as Addy Thorington has signed with the University of Wyoming for volleyball and Waycee Harvey has committed to Colorado Mesa for track and field.

Thorington is a three-time all-state selection in 3A volleyball and there aren't very many players that have earned that distinction, regardless of classification. Thorington her Panther team to the 3A championship match in 2023 with Powell ending up 2nd in the state in 3A and finishing with a record of 27-7. The 6-0 outside hitter had over 600 kills in her senior season which led all of Wyoming High School volleyball plus 119 blocks and 344 digs.

Thorington was an all-state pick in 3A girls' basketball in 2023 averaging 8 points and 7 rebounds per game. So this season she is averaging 7 points and 7 boards per contest. She has also competed in track and field, taking 2nd in the high jump at the 3A Outdoor State Meet in 2023 at 5-2. She placed 5th in the high jump as a sophomore and 10th as a freshman.

Waycee Harvey will be headed to Division II Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction and burst on the track scene as a freshman by winning the 3A 100-meter dash at the 2021 State Outdoor Meet in 13.26. Her Powell team took the 3A state championship in the 4x400 meter relay and Harvey also took 5th in the 200 in 28.23 along with an 8th place finish in the long jump.

At the 2022 3A State Outdoor Track Meet, Harvery's 4x400 relay team repeated as state champs, and individually, she was 2nd in the long jump at 16-6, 3rd in the 100 in 12.93, with a 4th place finish in the 200 in 26.92.

In her junior season at the 3A State Outdoor Track Meet, Harvey placed 4th in the long jump at 16-8 and 4th in the 400-meter run in 58.9. She took 5th in the triple jump at 32-2.5 and 7th in the 200 with a clocking of 26.78.

Harvey also plays on the Powell basketball team and has been averaging 9 points a game so far this season.
