Standouts in girls’ track and boys’ soccer are the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week winners for April 17, 2024. The girls’ honor went to Buffalo senior Carly Norman. The boys’ award went to Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Torrington sophomore Anthony Arnusch. They were chosen for outstanding performances from April 8 through April 13, 2024.

WYOPREPS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK WINNERS 4-17-24

Norman was a star at last weekend’s Billings Invite at Lockwood High School in Billings, MT. Norman went 3-for-3 in individual events and scored 30 of her team’s 54.5 points. Norman won the 100-meter hurdles at a time of 14.89 seconds. She set a school and stadium record in the event at Lockwood HS. That came after a time of 15.25 in the prelims. Norman broke her school record of 14.95 seconds, set at last year’s state track meet. In the 300-meter hurdles, the senior set a stadium record of 46.95 seconds. Finally, her victory in the long jump was the best of all. She jumped 18-4. That broke the meet record of 17-11 set back in 1976 and 1979. It also broke the Buffalo High School record of 17-5.50. That was from 1993. It was a stadium record, as well.

WyoPreps visited with Ms. Norman on Wednesday morning. She reflected on her big day and enjoyed the great conditions and competition. Norman touched on all three events, her key to winning them, how training is going, and more.

Arnusch is a sophomore at Lingle-Ft. Laramie High School. He plays soccer for Torrington High School. He helped the Blazers to a 2-0 record last week. That included a win over top-ranked Worland and Buffalo. Arnusch scored two goals in regulation against the No. 1 Warriors. He also converted a PK goal in the shootout win, 6-5. That gave Worland their first loss to a 3A opponent since 2017. Second-ranked Torrington followed that win with a 6-1 victory over Buffalo the next day. Arnusch contributed two assists in that match.

The sophomore joined WyoPreps for a conversation about the big weekend for Torrington, who is ranked No. 1 in the new WyoPreps Coaches and Media Soccer Poll for 3A boys that came out today. Arnusch described the feeling of their win over Worland, what it took in that match, his two goals, how it felt in the shootout, the follow-up victory, and more.

Congratulations to Carly and Anthony on our weekly award!

The WyoPreps Athlete of the Week nominations are open from Fridays at 5 p.m. until Mondays at 9 a.m. Coaches, family, friends, and student-athletes can nominate deserving student-athletes. Early and late nominations are not accepted.
