Mountain View senior Carson Eardley has decided to play football at Chadron State College in Nebraska. Eardley was a two-time all-state and all-conference selection for the Buffalos. Carson was the 2A Defensive Player of the Year during his senior season. He helped Mountain View to a 10-1 overall record and a semifinal appearance in the 2A playoffs. The Buffalos won the 2A West Conference regular season championship with a 6-0 league record.

Carson’s choice keeps a family tradition with the Eagles’ sports program going. Both of his parents are Chadron State alums. His dad played football at CSC, and his mom played softball.

Eardley anchored the backend of the No. 2 ranked 2A defense for Mountain View. He finished fourth in the division at 20 defensive points per game. Eardley made 86 tackles, which included two tackles for loss. He had two fumble recoveries, five interceptions, ten pass breakups, and scored two defensive touchdowns. The Buffalos allowed only 197 yards and 8.5 points per game.

On offense, Eardley caught 46 passes for 630 yards and eight TDs. He added 711 yards rushing and scored five TDs on the ground. Earley also returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, which included a 95-yarder. His 17 total TDs were second-most in Class 2A last fall.

As a junior during the 2022 season, Eardley made 56.5 total tackles, which included 1.5 sacks. He had two interceptions, two pass breakups, blocked one kick, and scored two defensive TDs. On offense, Eardley had ten catches for 248 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for 220 yards and three TDs and returned one kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. Carson helped Mountain View to a 5-4 record and a spot in the 2A football playoffs.

In track and field, Carson is a three-time state qualifier. He is the defending 3A state champion in the 100-meter dash and was second in the 300-meter hurdles last year. The Buffalos have finished second or third in the boys’ team standings over the last three years.

Eardley joins high school teammate Fletcher Black in the Chadron State football program.

Chadron State competes at the NCAA Division II level. The Eagles are a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). They went 5-6 in the 2023 season.
