Riverton standout golfer Parker Paxton finished as tied for the runner-up spot at the 2023 Junior America’s Cup in Sparks, NV, on Thursday.

Paxton shot a three-round total of 203 or 10-under par. He was only one shot back from the winner, Gerardo Gomez from Mexico Red (-11). Paxton had rounds of 70, 64, and 69 on the Red Hawk Golf and Resort course, where par was 71.

His efforts helped Wyoming take 14th place in the team standings. Wyoming was at 15-over par for the tournament. They shot 11-over, 4-over, and even-par in the three rounds of the Junior America’s Cup. Wyoming finished ahead of Hawaii, Montana, Oregon, and British Columbia.

There was a three-way tie for first in the team standings with Southern California, Mexico Red, and San Diego all at 18-under par.

The three other golfers that represented Wyoming were Evanston’s Sam Dolezal and Ryker Lind, plus Wheatland’s Tate Nichols.

Lind finished in a tie for 63rd at 15-over par (228). He had rounds of 79, 76, and 73 in the tournament.

Nichols took 70th place. He was at 23-over par or 236. Nichols shot 88, 77, and 71.

Dolezal tied for 71st place at 25-over par (238). During his 54-hole tournament, he fired rounds of 75, 80, and 83.

The high school golf season starts on Monday, Aug. 7, with practice. The first tournament of the fall is on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023.
