A standout softball player and a senior leader from a 4A boys’ soccer team earned the Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors for March 20, 2024. Thunder Basin senior Natalie Clonch and Sheridan senior Kelten Crow were chosen because of individual and team success during the first weekend of the spring sports season in Wyoming. These were based on performances from March 14 through March 16, 2024.

Clonch returned to the diamond last weekend in a major way. She batted a perfect 1.000 at the plate and helped the top-ranked Bolts win all three of their games at the Gillette Softball Non-Conference Tournament. Clonch went 9-for-9 in the three games with 6 RBIs. She had three singles, three doubles, and three triples. It was her first action since her sophomore season. Clonch scored eight runs and added three stolen bases. She also made six putouts and had one assist in the field for a 1.000 fielding percentage. Not a bad way to start the 2024 season. Thunder Basin beat Green River 15-0, then fifth-ranked Cody, 5-4, and Kelly Walsh, 17-1. In the comeback win over Cody, Clonch had the game-tying RBI triple and the game-winning steal of home.

WyoPreps visited with Natalie on Wednesday to reflect on her perfect weekend. She discussed what her approach at the plate was like, how nice it was to start 3-0 as a team, what it’s been like coming back after a year off, and more.

Crow and the 4A No. 5 Broncs began their 2024 soccer season by ending the longest unbeaten streak in boys’ high school soccer in state history last Friday. Sheridan won at 3A No. 1 Worland, 1-0. That snapped the Warriors’ 80-game unbeaten streak. Sheridan followed that with a 4-2 win over 3A Buffalo the next day for their 2-0 start to the season. Crow scored two goals last weekend, which included a game-winner. Crow didn’t have the biggest stats but was chosen to represent Sheridan’s nice start to the season.

Crow spoke with WyoPreps on Wednesday afternoon. He described the feeling of a big road win, what he saw on the play for Sheridan’s game-winning goal at Worland, responding the next day with another win, his two goals, and more.

Congrats to Natalie and Kelten!

The WyoPreps Athlete of the Week nominations are open from Fridays at 5 p.m. until Mondays at 9 a.m. Coaches, family, friends, and student-athletes can nominate deserving student-athletes. Early and late nominations are not accepted.
