The 2022-23 Wyoming high school team roping title was won in Rock Springs by Cam Johnson from Buffalo and Big Piney's Cael Espenscheid. They were able to outduel the nearest competitors by about 20 points and the fastest trip of the weekend was eight seconds flat. The duo has enjoyed a solid season with wins in the Casper and Newcastle rodeos this season. Espenscheid rang up 212 points this season and Johnson had 209 and narrowly won the state championship over Kash Reynolds of Rozet and Talon Larsen from Gillette. Espenscheid and Johnson now will prepare for the National High School Finals Rodeo that will be in Gillette July 16-22. A year ago, the pair finished 26th in the team roping with a combined time of 25.59.
