Cheyenne Wins Another AA Legion Baseball State Title [VIDEO]

For the 20th time in the last 23 seasons, the Cheyenne Sixers are the Wyoming American Legion Baseball AA State Champs.

Cheyenne topped Casper in the title game last Friday in Jackson, 10-2.

The Sixers got a solo home run from Mason Tafoya to lead off the game and never trailed. That was part of a seven-run first inning. Cheyenne used a bases-loaded walk, a two-run single from Nolan Horton, an RBI single from Kaed Coates, and an RBI single by Tafoya to break the game open.

Kaeden Wilcox hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first, which helped the Oilers get on the scoreboard. They trailed 7-1.

The Sixers added an RBI sacrifice fly from Colter McAnelly in the third. Casper answered with an RBI single by Bryce Locklin in the fourth inning.

McAnelly added to the lead with a solo home run in the sixth and an RBI single in the seventh for the final margin. He finished 2-2 with three RBIs and one walk. Tafoya added two hits and two RBIs, while Horton contributed three hits and two RBIs.

Bradley Feezer was the winning pitcher. He threw six innings and allowed two runs on five hits. Feezer struck out eight Oilers. Julian Romero closed out the final inning.

Hunter Hauck led Casper with two hits. Trig Berens took the loss on the mound. The Oilers were appearing in the championship game for the first time since winning it all in 2019. They finished 32-23 on the season.

This was the fourth straight AA state title for the Sixers. Cheyenne is 60-14 this season and moves on to the 2023 Northwest Regional Tournament (Region 8) for American Legion Baseball in Gillette. The tourney starts on Wednesday, Aug. 2. The Sixers will face Helena, MT, in their first game at 4 p.m.
