The Wyoming Legion 'A' Baseball State Championship featured not one but 2 compelling and exciting games as Park County neighbors Powell and Cody hooked up Sunday at Thorne-Rider Stadium in Sheridan.

Powell had their backs to the wall as they entered Sunday's play with one loss (to Cody) so they needed a win to stay alive. In a grueling 10-inning game, Powell won it 7-6, scoring the winning run on a hit batsman with the bases loaded. The Pioneers got a great game at the plate by Trey Stenerson who went 2-4 with a home run and Powell received a gutsy pitching performance by Dalton Worstell who threw 85 pitches in relief. Cody received 2 RBIs from Trey Thomasson and Ben Reinker.

The 2nd game of the day was a winner-take-all contest and these 2 teams came out firing on offense but the turning point in the game was the 5th inning as Powell pushed 9 runs across the plate. They did all of this with 2 outs. Brock Johnson hit a 3 run homer in that inning and was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Cody never gave up but came up short 16-14. The Cubs got a great effort at the plate from Dominic Phillips who had 4 hits, including a home run and drove in 3.

Powell ended up beating Cody 7 of 8 times this season and the Pioneers win their first state title since 2010. Be sure and check out our video of Sunday's action as well as some photos in our gallery below. Enjoy!
