The West defeated the East, 9-8 last Saturday, in the third annual Wyoming American Legion Baseball Single-A All-Star game in Douglas.

The West scored five runs in the second inning and never trailed after that. The East rallied within one run, twice, but failed to pull even.

After a sacrifice fly, Jace Paoli’s two-run double pushed the West in front, 3-1, in the second inning. They added an RBI single from Lafe Files and a bases-loaded walk for the 5-1 lead.

Tyler Rambo produced a two-run double for the East All-Stars, and Ryland Petroski scored on a passed ball. That pulled them within, 5-4, at the end of the third inning.

The West All-Stars used a fielder’s choice, a Walker Wilson RBI single, and a bases-loaded walk to stretch the lead back out, at 8-4. A throwing error on a passed ball led to the West’s final run.

The East rallied with three runs in their final two at-bats but fell short.

Files and Wilson led the West with two hits and one RBI apiece. Dominic Phillips of Cody was the winning pitcher.

The East was led by Rambo with one hit and two RBIs. Teigen Boyson added one hit and one RBI. Aiden teDuits took the loss.

The West out-hit the East, 11-to-6.

Files was named the game’s MVP.

The West has won two of the three all-star games played. They won the first in 2021 before the East All-Stars won in 2022.

Last Friday night was the annual Home Run Derby. Phillips of Cody was the champion with two home runs. He won it with a home run swing on his final pitch.

Each all-star team was comprised of first-team all-conference players, but both teams had replacement players to fill the void of missing players.
