Part two of our Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors for March 6, 2024, goes to a pair of downhill skiers from state champion Jackson. The girls’ honoree was Dylan Witherite, and the boys’ recipient was Liam Logan. These were based on performances from Feb. 26 through March 2, 2024.

Jackson’s dominance at the alpine skiing state championships continued last weekend. The Broncs have won every individual race since 2017. That trend stayed intact last Friday. Despite some good snow in Jackson at Snow King Resort, Dylan Witherite and Liam Logan had the two best runs and became state champions.

In the Giant Slalom, Witherite completed her two runs at 1:41.62. That was close to 4.5 seconds ahead of a teammate that finished in second place. Logan won the boys’ GS race by nearly two seconds over his teammate and the defending champion. His combined time over two runs was 1:34.76. Both skiers helped Jackson win a state team championship. It was the 15th straight title for the girls and the 13th in a row for the boys.

No one was able to race on Day 2 of the championships. They were canceled due to unsafe racing conditions. Thus, there are no slalom state champions in 2024.

Earlier this week, WyoPreps spoke with Witherite about her victory. She discussed what it was like to win the race, the conditions, her strategy, her focus at the starting gate, and more.

WyoPreps was unable to connect with Mr. Logan.

Congrats to both Dylan and Liam on their state championships in alpine skiing!

The WyoPreps Athlete of the Week nominations are open from Fridays at 5 p.m. until Mondays at 9 a.m. Coaches, family, friends, and student-athletes can nominate deserving student-athletes. Early and late nominations are not accepted.
