It was the first round of the Battle of Gillette on Friday as Campbell County played host to Thunder Basin in 4A basketball. In the boy's game, Thunder Basin had a big lead and had to hang on to beat Campbell County 82-77.

The Bolts at one point led by 22 but give the Camels credit for scratching and clawing their way back in the game. Gibby Williams led Thunder Basin with 27 and he has been the team's leading scorer, averaging 18 points per game. Josh Klaasen has been averaging 13 a game and had 18 vs. Campbell County. The Camels were paced by Lane Hladky with 17 and he has been pouring in 14 a game. Mason Drube chipped in 16 for the Camels who fell to 4-9 on the year while the Bolts improved to 6-9.

In the girl's game, Campbell County overwhelmed Thunder Basin 71-47 to up their record to 9-5. The Bolts had a double-digit lead at halftime and never looked back. The Camels have a serious 1-2 punch on offense from Kayle Neary and Cami Curtis who have been averaging 12 points a game apiece. The Bolts fell to 7-8 and they're leading scorer this season has been Kambel Cody who has been throwing in 11 per contest.
